Our country needs to move beyond oil to build a new clean energy economy. A national plan to support the rapid, widespread deployment of plug-in electric vehicles will help move our country beyond oil. A strong and clean renewable electricity standard (RES) will create new jobs and stimulate the economy. These critical policies will help our country meet the interrelated challenges of climate change, economic competitiveness, and energy independence.

Elements of the Electric Vehicle Deployment Act of 2010 (S. 3495) offered by Senator Dorgan (D-ND) and Senator Bingaman’s (D-NM) Renewable Electricity Promotion Act (S.3813) are ready to be brought to the Senate floor for a vote this fall. To lay the groundwork for a clean energy economy, we urge the Senate to bring forward and pass these critical pieces of legislation.
