I have been in the class room where the teacher (essentially) said that she didn't want to teach anymore that day so she let the kids play with the iPads. I have seen firsthand at home how the classroom iPads affect iPad use at home. they are a crutch.

To protect our kids’ eyes and make them focus on study, I would like the district to consider to provide classrooms without iPad.

Thanks for doing this. A year ago, we spoke with the IT team on-site and mentioned this exact issue and showed them screen shots of what I was able to access in the classroom.

Parents of EISD students have been asking for data to support the decision to bring iPads to the elementary schools since day 1. In that time - many years ago - no data has been provided that supports the full deployment for educational purposes. Put another way, the educational benefits continue to be unproven, and the risks continue to mount and be proven. Given the latest revelations about the negative impact at the elementary level, now is the right time for EISD to step back and reassess the use and impact of this type of technology in the classroom.

I do believe in the hands of less capable teachers and substitutes iPads are being used as nannies in the classroom and not as limited and specific learning tools

I feel that screens are so prevalent and there is research supporting how it impacts brain and social development in a negative way. I also think it is not a replacement for teaching. Our son has ADHD and has a spike in behaviors after prolonged screen time exposure. It would be amazing if we looked at more of a Montessori based approach in the school system or taught mindfulness and had outdoor experiences in lieu of iPads.

Please eliminate iPads at the elementary level or please find a solution to limit daily time and above all, find a more comprehensive solution i.e firewall + additional filter protection to ensure safety for school iPads.

Let me know if there is already a task force formed to take this to the top. I want to be on it!
