People are unaware of what Congress is planning to do to the internet.

  • People have been successfully fighting to keep the internet free, but a new bill could be devastating.
    • House Republicans are sneaking in limits for the FCC in pending internet-related bills.
    • If this is passed, consumers may have to pay more for individual services of internet "fast lanes".

What is the FCC? What do they do?

  • FCC = Federal Communications Commission.
  • The FCC regulates all communications. Radio, television, phone, and internet industries.
  • The FCC has full power to do what they feel will best benefit these industries. Without your influence, large corporations could benefit at the expense of your internet access.

The internet is one of the worlds greatest utilities and should be treated as such.

  • Without action, the internet will be put in the hands of large corporations.

Who will it affect?

  • Potentially anyone who uses the internet.
    • Corporations could make you pay more for individual services, such as packages to pay extra for Netflix, Hulu, etc.
    • Corporations could also force companies to pay them extra in order to not limit the delivery speed or quality of their service.
  • The internet plays a large part in the economy, and the lack of net neutrality could interrupt this.

Why don't I know about this?

  • Net neutrality is a very technical term.
    • While many people have heard the term, they are unaware of how important and urgent it is.

What can I do?

  • Contact the FCC.
    • You can email the FCC at openinternet@fcc.gov.
  • Contact your state's representatives.
  • Donate.
    • You can donate to groups founded in order to fight the large cable corporations, such as FreePress or Public Knowledge.
