The council finally withdrew the proposal to cut our ranger service. It was a long road and I am drained but the outcome is exactly what we fought for. I am keeping this page open to ensure those in power remember the value of our green spaces.

Final supporters
WE DID IT!
Thanks to all your emails and signatures we have managed to save the City of York Council Ranger Service.
The Councillors who put them forward for cuts have done a big U-turn and withdrawn the proposal.
I will leave this page up as a reminder of what could have been and if you still want to sign the form it will serve to protect the Rangers in the future.

We do not want to see the end of the City of York Council Rangers Service.
City of York Council want to get rid of their Ranger Service to save money.
We don't want them to! The work they do is too valuable to cut.
The Rangers provide a valuable service to local people enabling them to get the most out of their local green space.
The work they do is highly varied but includes:
* Leading school group visits to parks and nature reserves in York
* Organising 5 large scale summer fairs in parks and nature reserves, bringing over 10,000 into these green spaces and raising thousands of pounds for local charities and community groups
* Lead over 100 school holiday activities for children which give them a better understanding of the local wildlife and environment
* Support Friends groups across the City which would otherwise fold or be severely restricted in what they can achieve
* Lead and facilitate hundreds of hours of free work maintaining and enhancing green spaces with members of the public and through organisations such as the probation service
* Lead family activities that develop a better understanding of the wildlife and environment around them
* Develop grant schemes with community groups and bring thousands of pounds into parks and open spaces across York

The emails from the council remain cold and dismissive despite everything we have shown them. I am exhausted by the constant uphill battle but there is no path forward where I just stop fighting.

Keep them. They actually do real work around here compared to the suits in the council office.
SO RELIEVED! My kids love the summer activities. Taking this service away would have been a massive mistake for the city.
finally some good news. stop cutting the stuff that actually helps people.
About time they listened to common sense. York needs these rangers for the parks to stay decent. Good news for everyone.
The ranger service is the only reason i feel safe walking in the woods with my dog. dont mess with them again.
