This type of decision making does not help build community. Rather, it makes a mockery of citizen involvement and the formation of Neighborhood Associations.

There's so many things wrong with that statement...I don't even know where to begin. Have you seen the kids that skate at the school? They don't look like gang members. They look like high school kids that could use a park. I fear that one of their boards will slip from under them and they'll roll onto the street during rush hour traffic. They should get a designated area for them to skate or at least a trail around the park so they can ride there without fear of oncoming traffic. We don't need a dog park, we need safe spaces for our kids (gangsters) to go out and play.

Skate parks were a fad 12 years ago. As other cities, such as Rowlett discovered, the combination of liability for injuries, graffiti, and repeated police calls were too much for the neighborhood. The skate parks were removed.
On the other hand Makerspace is on the upswing. With high interest in crafts, 3D printing, and creativity, Makerspace fills an existing need by providing access to tools, training, and oversight that is not otherwise affordable to the public.

There are plenty of uses for this the way it is, without leveling anything. We were told that this area was going to be used by the parks department for equipment and offices.

The Embree Neighborhood Association was formed with encouragement from city leaders who said we could and should be involved in what is happening in the community around us, including Central Park with which we share a border. Several years ago the head of the Parks Department spoke to us about potential plans for the park, including an accessible playground for children of all abilities. Those plans have seemingly disappeared, and these new plans have been pursued without any input from us except for a chance to speak just before the council voted.

?I disagree with the whole idea of a dog park and skate park at Central Park. For years this has been used for little league baseball, little league football. Why would Garland want to tear down a perfectly good building that could be used for so many more things that could generate money. I have a suggestion.How about Hypermart that has been abandoned for years and has tons of room. Away from neighborhoods ,because who wants all the traffic and noise right in their front door?

I do not agree with tearing down the armory when it could generate money. There is plenty of other places in garland for a skatepark. This needs to be reconsidered and voices heard.
