Citizens should not have to pay $20,000 for a water supply
To the North Port City Commission,
Nearly 40,000 households in North Port are being required to connect to city water at a cost of about $20,000 per home. This burden falls hardest on senior citizens, retirees, and low-income families who simply cannot afford an expense of this size.
Many elderly residents living on fixed incomes built their homes decades ago and depend on safe, reliable well water that has served them for years. Forcing them to pay $20,000 for a new water supply they did not ask for places them at risk of financial hardship, debt, and even losing the homes they worked their entire lives to own.
Why should residents be forced to spend tens of thousands of dollars for water when they already have working wells? People deserve the freedom to choose to keep their well water if it is safe and functioning.
We respectfully call on the City of North Port to protect vulnerable residents by allowing homeowners—especially seniors and low-income families—the choice to keep their well water and avoid unnecessary financial hardship.
No senior citizen or struggling family should be forced into debt just to keep running water in their home.
Signed,
Concerned Residents of North Port, Florida
