23430–Y’all turned down our big box store to keep our town small and quaint..so now we
need to stop the building of more housing to keep our town small and quaint...traffic on Church St is like little Norfolk at times..

The proposed project adds to much density to the area. Any added benefit purportedly gain by additional tax revenue for the county will outweighed by the costs needed to pay for the additional adjustments to the area’s infrastructure. The county really has nothing to gain and everything to lose. Only party winning is the developer. Parties losing are the existing and new homeowners and the Town of Smithfield.

We do not need more housing... we are already over ran with residential neighborhoods... with no businesses to sustain it.

I live in Gatling Pointe South 23430. I am against the rezoning of this area. The county services are not ready to accommodate such an expansion in this area.

My husband and I moved here originally in 1994. We lived in the Townhouses off John Ralph Dr, then Waterford Oaks, to Gatling Pointe South, moved out of state, then came back to Gatling Pointe South 3 years ago. We have experienced every kind of road delays, road closings, noreaster, hurricanes, 2-week power outages, bridge closings, flooded roads... What makes the contractors think this area could handle the traffic? They would have to widen every road from here to 17 and from here to 10 and build bridges for the areas that always flood from several days of rain. Can you imagine 3:45 traffic on Nike Park, it would be backed up through Titus Creek and onto Smith's Neck Rd. or Nike Park onto Reynolds Dr. The school buses from Carrollton would be stuck. Drivers would start cutting through Rescue. Then imagine EMT's trying to get to Nike Park for a car accident or a soccer field for an injured child. The traffic on 10 would be insane, causing people to cut through the historic district to get to Battery Park. Really if they are going to allow them to build on that property they should allow as few houses as possible, require green spaces to maintain wildlife habitats and water control to divert water from shifting to roadways and surrounding homes, and continue to the walking path to allow for all the bicycle riders who will lose access from Gatling Point to town.

Smithfield doesn’t have the infrastructure in place to support this growth. The schools are overcrowded as is, the traffic is bad enough in this area, and it takes away from the small town living that we moved out here to enjoy.

I pay enough taxes without having to pay more when we have to build more schools. I’m retired living on a fixed income. Takes long enough to get to areas as it is to larger areas. For retired people having to drive at certain times in traffic along 17 is entirely ridiculous!
