As a resident of this beautiful historic Town of Smithfield, it is heartbreaking to see our town council and town planners putting money ahead of our residents. Shame on them!

I am a senior at Smithfield high school. I have lived in the county since kindergarten and in the past 3 years or so the over crowding at SHS has gotten ridiculous. Every year it gets more and more crowded to the point where you can barely move through the hallways in between classes. The buses are even worse; it’s so bad people have to sit 3 to a seat on some of them. It’s absolutely ridiculous and it affects the quality of education as class sizes get bigger and bigger to the point where there aren’t room for desks in some classrooms anymore. We cannot afford any more students without endangering the quality of your children’s education.

I live Smithfield and work in Newport News. I drive Battery Park Rd/Nike Park road every day to get to 17/JRB. Traffic is already so bad it often takes me an hour or more to travel to and from work. I might as well plan for a two hour trip if this development gets built. What a shame to loose all that natural land!!

Do not do this. There is already enough traffic in the area. This will take away the small town charm and leave us all to live in the "city" again. Some of us relocated there to get away from the "stuffiness" and this area is heading right in that direction. This needs to be stopped. I am so disappointed.
