The evidence is overwhelming. TAFY has strayed so far from its original intent to help and protect our youth. It is now a place for drug dealers to sell their goods and prey upon vulnerable addicted youth. This is not even something they tried to hide, it's done right out in the open. My opinion is not only that it should go back to its original intent but that all leaders should be replaced. Allowing what is going on there is criminal in my mind. Those connected with running this organization must be replaced to fix this problem. Their names exposed to the public so that they will never be allowed access to our youth again.

I wrote a letter to city Council about TAFY November 5, 2013 this is what I wrote: to whom this may concern, I am writing this letter regarding TAFY 711 E. second. I have lived at my home on 2nd street for over 20 years. I have been doing volunteer work for a local agency that helps needy families in our town for 13 years. I do realize that there are people that do need and use these agencies. I feel that the more places there are for needy people available in our town ultimately hurts our town. By this I mean homeless or "at risk " people relocating here because of all the different agencies available. Because of this bringing more homeless and at risk people to our beautiful town. I am writing this letter because the last time I went to a city meeting regarding TAFY I spoke in front of everyone stating how I felt about TAFY moving into our neighborhood. After the meeting I was accosted outside the doors by the ladies in charge of TAFY. They wanted to argue with me because I didn't see things their way. They said they wanted to "be closer to people and give them hugs" which they couldn't do at the dream Center.
The location of TAFY is poorly planned. It is located close to the dream park (skate park ) Jesse Webster Park (tree park) and the YMCA and bus stops were many children go. The type of people that go to TAFY are ones that I would NOT want my children to be around. I am not sure how TAFY monitors or cares to see if sex offenders or people of that nature attend their place. My son was attending church when one of the ladies in charge of TAFY invited him to go there. My son was only 11 years old at the time and not even close to being homeless. I don't know if it's to try to get more kids there or what the motive was but I feel it is not a safe place for kids to be. I see many questionable people over there daily (yes I mean daily even when they're not open) they are smoking making drug deals and talking and or yelling with very offe

TAFY has strayed very far from its original purpose-which was to support/help/give a hand up, even feed the youth in this area. Unfortunately this is not happening. TAFY has become a daily gathering place for junkies and criminals. The goods cash and services donated by good citizens with the intention of helping youth have not been used as Tafy promised. The people who go there DO have other places available to them. The way this place is operating is wrong on so many levels.. Tafy has made victims of the people and businesses living nearby as they continue to support and encourage the criminal element as they have been.

I believe that this program was started with the best of intentions but has gotten out of hand. If it truly is a program to help the youth, then the older criminal element needs to be weeded out and kept away. I have a deep concern for kids who need help, having to mingle with drug dealers and others who should not be there.

This place is no longer a safe place for our youth. It has become nothing but another place for all the drug users to go and that's not something this town should want or condone for our youth. Tafy either needs to get back to their original mission or just shut down, because this place has become a magnet for drug users and dealers to have a place to shoot up and for free meals. It's time to take back out town and clean up this place so our youth can have a future to look forward to.

These are adult drug abusers/dealers mixing with the youth they say they want to help. These men are getting high in the bathroom of the nearby playground, then returning to TAFY. There are many programs in town for adults.

Instead of making a petition to shut something down that helps others, how about you do something POSITIVE and go VOLUNTEER! Things appear out of hand to you? Go see how you can LEND a hand to your NEIGHBOR. That is how great communities are built. The people working at TAFY have a hard job and deserve support from the community.
TAFY is trying to help. Obviously the problem here is not TAFY. It's the people of Port Angeles... The ones who abuse drugs, and the ones like you who think removing a community service (that many may be the only positive thing in their lives) is the answer.
As you watch from the inside of your home, your belly full and body warm and clean, how dare you go after the people working on bettering our community and people who can't help themselves? I can understand your concern for the shady people, but it sounds like the police have responded to the issue when it's appropriate. Help your community thrive instead of type up a little petition to shut down some people's life line?? (who's situation you don't understand, clearly)
This is a sickening example of one of the things wrong with our society.
You disgust me.

We're talking about youth mixed up with serious adult drug abusers. You'd feel differently if you lived next door. Just this week two adult males left TAFY, went to the playground bathroom, and were found by the police in the same bathroom stall. How would you like for your kid to be in there with those two?

As a full time volunteer and advocate at TAFY, I have a comment (or two!)
The petition itself as well as most of the affirmative comments comes from people who have NO clue. (and who choose to remain ignorant) They would rather speculate than actually find out the facts, and when presented with facts, will simply lie. Ask the Chief of Police, he'll tell you just how big a "threat" TAFY is. Both he and the former chief make donations there.. I'm sure that the idiots at CCCW or Our Town know more about these things than law enforcement - right? Ask these people how many addicts they have helped into recovery. How many families in recovery do they support? The answer is ZERO. Thats not their mission. Their mission is to form little social clubs that make them feel superior. It has nothing to do with helping anybody or making Our Town better. The proliferation of these clubs has to do with the fact that these people are so socially inept that they cant get along (even with each other) and so must form yet another ineffective "citizens group". . And then they Attack-- - Hope after Heroin, The Needle Exchange, TAFY, etc. Basically, anybody who doesn't share their narrow minded, dim-witted view of the world.
But there is a bright side. My phone and email; have been blowing up this morning with messages of outraged support. Our support seems to come from intelligent people who understand the meaning of “no barrier”. They know what words like “enabling” actually mean. And they’re smart enough to pay little attention to axe grinding fools with nothing better to do. If anything, considering the source, this stupid petition serves as positive advertising for us. So thanks.
TAFY is open M-W_F 3-7 and SAT 4-7. Come down and see for yourself the “horrible” things that go on there. Or simply continue on your ignorant, self possessed path. Either way, we were here long before these dopes and their little clubs, and we’ll be here long after.
