York, PA, you will set a bad precedent for other cities if you dismantle your public school district and turn it over to profit-seeking charters. There are rumblings in New York that they are planning to try this in Buffalo. I think it will be disastrous, and this is only being done where children of poverty are being labeled a "underperforming" yet the root problem and effects of poverty are not being addressed. You don't see this happening in affluent districts. Please, Pennsylvania, don't do this.

I agree that public education needs improvement, but the public system used to work. Rather than handing our schools over to the rich, who are invested in keeping people stupid and easy to control, lets fully assess the current system and figure out how we can again get kids to read, write, add and subtract. I teach college and they can't do those things anymore.

the existing teachers should be allowed to TEACH and not just train students how to perform on standardized tests.

Keep York schools free to decide what works for them-all charter districts are ALL disasters -I don't think you want that on your head!

How disgusting. Tried and failed in Michigan. The for-profit charter pulled out after two years because there wasn't enough profit.
