This is an informal petition to Lethbridge City Council to oppose changes to the recycling policy. We are not against recycling, we are against paying for a recycling service that has a very poor cost to benefit ratio. Our taxes and service fees are high enough. We request the status quo, using the existing and well equipped community recycling centers and private service providers for curbside recycling for those who want it.

Please retweet the petition link or email like minded people, need numbers to get attention.

I spent the entire morning looking over the actual budget documents and the numbers just do not add up for the average household. It is wild how many people have reached out to tell me they were already feeling the squeeze before this proposal even surfaced.

I am not against recycling but we shouldn't go into debt to do this especially with the recent costly upgrade to recycling facilities that we haven't probably even paid for yet. If people want curbside - there are independent contractors - who can be commissioned by the city for a fee to do this until such time as the current recycle centers are redundant. Wasteful thinking and typical of governments not thinking ahead. We don't have the money? It don't happen!

It is quite a concern that we are not actually recycling goods but adding them to long term storage and/or to the landfill. Glass and other materials are one of the hardest to find a good outlet for recycling and usually again find their way to landfill. Until the City can find an outlet for all purposed recycled materials, we should put curbside recycling on hold.

Return garbage bins from front pickup back to rear pickup like it was before

A comparison of the purposed costs vs the purposed benefits. We don't have a firm proposal from council at this time, so I compared the ideas council tossed around and what other cities have done. The time extension on the landfill is negligible for the amount of money council wants to collect for it. Particularly when you consider the very small percentage of garbage going into the landfill from residences.

How have you determined that the cost to benefit ratio is very low?

I use a great local business call the Recycle Bin who offer world class service. It's worth the price, and I my recycling needs are always well taken care of!

I vote no to curbside recycling. The old system is working fine why fix something that's not broken!!
