The time it takes to actually do a part, which the professor would think we know, is too much. And the issue is that we didn't even study it in class before the assignment. Assignments should test our understanding, not our google skills.
Even more so, for Computer Engg students, this is an extra course. So we are taking an extra course, which takes the most time, and we are supposed to be on par with the other majors.

As someone who has experience programming, I find the assignments to be at the proper level to push our skills. On the other hand, many people did not have the opportunity to learn programming prior to university. After cis 1500, where the concepts were only touched upon briefly, I completely understand the difficulties others are having.

Absolutely agree. These assignments are ridiculous and are setting up students for failure. This is discouraging students from pursuing computer science believing they just aren't smart enough, but the problem isn't the students, it's the program and the university.

Concepts need to be taught before an assignment is given not during/after it is submitted. Also more time or help needs to be provided for during these assignments as they are a tremendous jump for many people who haven't programmed before.

There is so much stuff that I have never seen before and that I am being asked to use in the assignments. I am not blaming anyone but it is obviously that someone has not done their job right. Is am working my butt off to get good marks and to pay for school.

The workload is too much! 1500 did not prepare for me this! The prof is good and all but the workload along with other classes is too much

1500 was no where near this level of difficulty. I hate that we are basically forced to move along on concepts that the majority of us don't even understand in the first place. Learning the material on your own is also a challenge as you are so fixated on trying to understand the assignment.

So Ben, do you think people trying to get a medical degree have ever experimented with giving surgeries?
No.
Not everyone has programmed and everyone should have the ability to be able to succeed. The petition is saying that for what 1500 was, a beginner class, 2500 is a big jump into harder work that we didn't fully even understand last semester. Not to mention, even if you are trying to understand and learn, you have absolutely no time as the assignments are huge and time constrained.

I havent learned enough to complete these assignments. The prerequisite CIS 1500 has not prepared us enough for this big of a jump in content.

Badly structured class, No body can understand anything and to spring an assignment of this caliber on a class thats only prerequisite was CIS 1500 is irresponsible.

Totally agree with this petition. Assignments are very time consuming and difficult, and lessons focus too much on vauge concepts and are not hands-on, labs lack instruction and are even more confusing. Class time should be more effective!

Would really appreciate if the class material correlated with the assignments and explanations of the code blog days. I can not begin to express how much time and effort I spend on the tiniest things just because I have no clue on how to use them.
