Circle K Call to Action
Arizona, Department of Liquor Licenses and Control
Attn: State Liquor Board
800 W Washington St., 5th floor
Phoenix, AZ 85007
Dear Liquor Control:
We are contesting the renewal of the Liquor Licenses for the the following establishments:
License Number 10070107
Circle K #114
614 W Roosevelt St
License Number 10070066
Circle K Store #1603
1501 W Mc oDwell Rd.
Phoenix, AZ 85007
Both of these retailers sell alcohol products to transient, vagrant, and homeless who consume them on city streets, within the bounds of our neighborhood, and surrounding alleyways.
All neighbors living in the vicinity of the Stores repeatedly experience drunken, verbally as well as physically abusive individuals swaggering through our area with open containers purchased by these Two Stores. The empty bottles and cans are tossed into the alleyways, bus stops, on lawns, in gutters, and on private property as a result of these sales.
The Stores sell individual cans and bottles at a low price to encourage the homeless population to consume.
Examples are 28 oz can of beer sold at 2 cans for $4.00. Individual cans of mixed alcohol are sold at 5 cans for $5.00.
During and After consumption in our alleyways; there are drunken people in our streets and alleys vandalizing property, stealing from the resident, and defecating. The drunken people use the alleyways for restrooms leaving terrible messes for the property owners to clean up.
The problems have increased over the past year: A Property Owner, after asking the drunken individuals to move off private property have been threatened and challenge physically. The use of bus stops as a place to consume the alcohol leaves the area smelly, littered with cans, and broken bottles.
A house nearest the location of 15th Ave. store has been on the market for sale for a year or more, and is unable to sell because of the constant vagrant traffic that is encouraged by these stores.
Established Bars within the boarders of this neighborhood do not cause any of these same issues. They are responsible business and the Circle K stores should be following their example.
We would like to see the Circle K Stores #114 and #1603 have their liquor licenses denied. If not entirely, then at minimum individual sale, liquor mini's, single cans, single bottles be denied when the Stores come up for renewal in Nov of this year.
This action will assist the police, as well as the homeowners, and will dramatically help to keep our neighborhood safer and cleaner.
