Cigarette Bins at Ocean Inlet Park
Thousands of cigarette butts are being littered at Ocean Inlet Park, Ocean Ridge, FL, monthly. Cigarette butts have toxic chemicals that leach into our soils, sand, and waters. The copious amounts of cigarette butts being found at Ocean Inlet Park are not being picked up by county workers but from volunteers. The maintenance workers leaf blowers, heavy winds and rain can cause many butts to find their way to the sewage drains and can be blown into the inlet. The butts then go into the Intracoastal which can affect manatees. fish, etc, or they are swept out into the ocean where they can affect our endangered sea turtles and other sea and wildlife. Our request for cigarette bins has been denied by Palm Beach County. Our environment is at risk and we feel by adding the bins would lessen the amount of cigarette butts that would be littered and our beaches, park areas, humans and animals would benefit from less cigarette litter.
