Ciara Whitney deserves a plaque

Creative, colorful, contagious - Ciara Jolie - she was all of these things and more. Decision makers please hear me out. By not honoring Ciara with a plague you are doing exactly what you are trying to avoid. You don't want to glorify her death or how she died - you don't want to call attention to it - you don't want to put her name on a plaque because of how she died. How about how she lived? My goodness let us all not be remembered or judged for how we died - what a sad state the world be in. How about proudly displaying Ciara's name on a plaque honoring the courage and strength it took this child to get through a single day...A SINGLE DAY! Ciara silently battled this disease well before anyone in school ever knew and guess what? She came to school, she went to class she ate lunch, she took tests just like the rest except Ciara did all this while fighting constant battles in her head, in her mind, in her body EVERY SINGLE DAY. How about honoring the warrior she was - it's that simple. IT'S NEVER GOING TO BE ABOUT HOW SHE DIED IF WE DON'T LET IT. DON'T YOU LET IT! If you don't grant these kids this simple wish you'll be bringing more attention to how she died and overlooking the life she lived. If that's the case then shame on you. Give them this : it's the right thing to do. Put her name on the plaque just like the rest of the Boone students we are mourn and remember. Ciara Jolie was a student at Daniel Boone - it's that simple. To the kids that started this petition: keep doing your thing: we'll get there... #ciarastrong

She was a human with flaws don't minimize her for something quite possibly beyond her control.

My brother committed suicide. Ciara's family is hurting enough. The least you can do is give her an honoring plaque,

Disgraceful Daniel Boone!

Ciara deserves this plaque. Her family within in days shared their story publicly about her battles with mental health issues. They are incredible people who truly want to make everyone aware. They are the nicest, loving people that I have ever met and I am blessed to now call them dear friends - no actually family. I was there at Relay as they stood by her brother in the biggest group hug ever. They set up a Scholarship at Boone to help with the financial burden of college. If you are willing to accept the scholarship the Family put together to be offered to students at Boone then you should give her a Plaque which is well deserved. If you don't Shame On YOU.. You must give her a plaque. If any of the board had attended her service they would have seen the heartbreak of the family , friends and Our community but they would have also seen a community United. One that provided enough food to feed the hundreds gathered as well as some homeless people in the community. Her death in no way glorified Suicide. In fact it opened the eyes of parents and students and created a dialogue amongst students, teachers and parents and children.

Mental Health is an ILLNESS just as Cancer, leukemia, lymphoma are. We need to stop with the labels--it's shameful that you won't honor this student. Would you not put a Plaque up for someone that succumbed to their illness or is it just "certain illnesses" and Mental Health doesn't fit your criteria--shameful.

Please reconsider your decision to recognize the young woman who took her life. This is National Mental Health Month. I implore you.

Enough shame and guilt already surrounds families that have to deal with suicide. It's unbelievable that the school board would reject honoring their student who lost her fight with mental illness. Remembering her life in a dignified way is in no way encouraging suicide. Please respect her and her family and allow them to find some peace with the simple act of having a plaque placed in the school.

All it takes is one person to make a difference in someone's life good or bad. We need to focus on the good and protect eachother.

This could raise awareness about suicide and encourage people to ask for help! As tragic as this was this brought students in school together as a community because of the loss of their fellow classmate and helped to raise some awareness and I think everyone needs a reminder that bullying hurts and suicide is real.

That was my Freind and she deserve a plack and with all her friends they will make it happen.
