In an effort to promote an understanding within the Inland Empire community, we the pastors of a group of like-minded churches are seeking to advance a Biblical point of view on the issue of same sex marriage. Our corporate response to the homosexual marriage issue is based on a series of propositions that include the following: God exists, God created man for His own purposes, God is personal and He has communicated His will to us through general and special revelation. We, like all men of good will, want what promotes the greatest benefit and blessing for society and for its individual members. We believe that conforming to the proper natural order as defined by Nature’s God is what promotes the greatest benefit and blessing to us individually and corporately. Our opinion is based on what God has revealed through His Word (special revelation) and through examining what He has made (general revelation). God testifies to the truth through what He has made. Nature testifies to the natural compatibility of the heterosexual union resulting in new life. In contrast there is no such compatibility of design in the union of homosexuals. Nature’s testimony of what is natural and what is unnatural is clear. God also testifies to the truth through His Word, the Bible. We believe the Bible is the absolutely inerrant, infallible and relevant Truth of God. The Bible says.... 2Tim:3:16 “All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.” Therefore in Rom:1:26-27 it says “Even the women turned against the natural way to have sex and instead indulged in sex with each other. 27 And the men, instead of having normal sexual relations with women, burned with lust for each other. Men did shameful things with other men.” And also 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 says “Don’t you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don’t fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality, 10 or are thieves, or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive, or cheat people—none of these will inherit the Kingdom of God.” We recognize everyone's right to their opinion but our position is that every violation of Gods law is a violation of Gods natural order. Although in our society homosexuality has become accepted and even celebrated, it still stands in opposition to God’s will as revealed in his word and as such it is listed as one among the many human desires and behaviors the Bible calls sin. While it is our goal to voice a unified opposition to same sex marriage it is equally our goal to communicate God’s love for all people. John 3:16 says “For God so loved the world…” He doesn’t hate this broken world. We believe that God’s love accepts us as we are for the purpose of transforming us into what we ought to be.
