The NCDOT is planning to close the intersection of Church Street (over the Rail Road tracks) and Miami Boulevard for safety reasons. This will cause the Church Street traffic to be diverted into the Keystone Crossing neighborhood and out to Hopson Road. The NCDOT projects that after the completion of this project in the Fall of 2012, there will be 1500 cars using this road through Keystone Crossing daily, and that the speed limit on this road will be increased to 45mph.  Safety measures such as speed bumps or stop signs will not be installed.  The houses in the Keystone Crossing neighborhood along Keystone Park Drive are 15 feet from the road and children live in many of these homes.  Although this project may increase safety on Church Street, it will decrease safety on Keystone Park Drive.  It will also cause privacy, noise and pollution issues for this quiet neighborhood and the homes on Hopson Road.  Also, due to the closing of Barbee Road, closing Church Street will severely limit emergency and convenience access to Highway 54.
