There are many that suffer greatly because of this serious medical condition known as Chronic Pancreatitis. Chronic pancreatitis is long-term progressive inflammatory disease of the pancreas that leads to permanent destruction of the structure and function of the pancreas. This disease is an excruciating, debilitating disease and can be a major contributor in developing deadly Pancreatic Cancer. In the circle of the Chronic Pancreatitis sufferers, they struggle to lead “normal” lives, despite the daily symptoms (severe pain, nausea, vomiting) and frequent trips to the Emergency Room with extended hospital stays. Unfortunately, many employers and doctors are unsympathetic to this disease. Many lose their jobs leaving them broke and applying for Social Security Disability Insurance. Despite working all of their lives, they are still finding it difficult to obtain the benefits that they have paid into for many, many years. Often times, they submit to many tests, procedures and surgeries, but because of the complexity of the pancreas, the treatments fail.
There is, however, hope – the Total Pancreatectomy with Autologous Islet Transplant (TP-AIT). In short, the surgery involves removing the pancreas completely, harvesting the insulin-producing Islet cells, and injected them into the portal vein of the liver. The islets cells will function as a free graft in the liver - they will exist in the liver where they produce insulin. This surgery is one costing hundreds of thousands of dollars Medicare/Medicaid will not cover it calling it “experimental” when in theory, it has been done, successfully, sine 1976.
These pancreatic sufferers desperately need your help.
The stories coming into my inbox are heartbreaking and prove that far too many people are battling this pain in total silence. Please take the link to this petition and email it directly to your state representative today. We need to force them to acknowledge the urgent need for better surgery access.

Reaching this milestone proves that people are finally paying attention to the struggle of those living with chronic pancreatitis. Now that we have this momentum I need you to email your local representatives and demand they acknowledge the necessity of the TP-AIT procedure. We cannot let this conversation stall now.

Living with this pain is absolute torture. People just think you are lazy or faking it because they cant see it to believe it. We need more options than just suffering.
