I have thought of a great and harmless Christmas prank for my friend to do on his family, but he's refusing to do it because he says he 'can't be bothered' and 'it would be tragic if there was no reaction'.

I can't disclose his name or the nature of the prank, in case his family sees this. I also can't do the prank myself because it's based on one of his own Personal Christmas Habits, and it would take me years to build up that same reputation in preparation.
