The holidays are a time to spend with our friends and family. We have learned especially with this past year that our time is very limited and things can change very quickly. Christmas Eve in the Polish culture, and in many others, is the day of celebration and engaging in religious activities. We understand that our communities need to have their services during this time, however in years past we have observed that many clients do not attend as they are also celebrating the holiday. We, the undersigned, are asking for December 24th 2020, Christmas Eve, to be half-day (9-5) so we can spend time with our families and engage in religious celebrations. We are hoping with this request; we are acknowledging the culture of the people who we service.

It’s a wonderful thought for our agency to recognize the importance of Christmas Eve for people and community it serves the most. I’m sure it would be a greatly appreciated gesture and an example of cultural sensitiveness and inclusiveness.
I agree that it is a very special day and one of the most important days in Polish culture and since so many of our clients are Polish it would be great if this day could be honored by our agency.

Wigilia (Polish pronunciation: [viˈɡilʲa]) is the traditional Christmas Eve vigil supper in Poland, held on December 24th. Wigilia, starts when the first star appears in the sky. It is culturally and spiritually the most important day for Polish people. Family have broken the Christmas wafers (opłatek) together and exchanged wishes for good health and prosperity. It will be wonderful for our Clients and staff members to recognize importance of this day.
