When I had my first child, Christie Marie, I had such a bad bladder infection where I was instructed to stay in bed. The hospital had a sitter stay in my room since I couldn't do much on my own. I stayed in the hospital for a few days, every morning ringing my nurse to bring in baby girl. I would wait, but they would take their time, and I would only see her for a few minutes. One of the few times I was able to hold her, I said, "She's so tiny, I'm afraid she might break!" The sitter "helping me" in my room called a social worker, telling her that I "admitted that I didn't want to hold my child." The social worker called DCF, the department of children and families and when they came to take my daughter away, they were "unable to tell me the reason." I asked to see her one last time and explained how the hospital did not want to let me visit with her often due to their busy schedules, and they said I was not allowed. Three days old and my daughter was taken from me without even given me a chance to be a mother. I was unable to find the true reason she was taken away until I came across a sealed packet in one of my hospital bags, after the court case was over. It was a copy of the court files, I guess my father was able to obtain for me and slipped in my belongings. The original letter that was faxed to DCF stated: " Mother of child unable to hold her child, possible neglect case. Has not held her child, refuses to see her..." Was DCF right in taking away my first child?
