They actually said yes and the varsity cords are happening for everyone in the county and I am honestly shaking right now because I really did not think they would listen to us. My heart is pounding so hard because all those practice hours and long nights finally mean something …

I'm currently a student-athlete at Bayside High School. I started this petition for the intention of getting these cords just for Bayside, but as the response to this idea grew, so did the boundaries. As of now, I am fighting to get theses student-athletes all across Brevard County to be recognized at graduation.

This petition is to try and get 2, 3, and 4 year varsity players, cords when they graduate. Students get recognized and awarded with cords for outstanding academic achievement, but what about those of us who spend countless hours everyday after school chasing after the sport of their dreams? We should get our recognition. We work day in and day out, in the classroom and on the fields/court. Everyday we spend time playing the game we love, whether it be football, basketball, softball, baseball, soccer, etc. As an upcoming 4 year varsity letterman of 2 sports I would love to be recognized for my accomplishments. But more importantly, I would love to see my fellow classmates and those to follow walk across that stage with their head held high flashing their cords.

Let's see if we can make this a possiblilty for the class of 2017 and those to come after us. I need your help and support!

I just saw the number hit one hundred and honestly my mind is reeling because I started this just thinking about my own cap and gown at Bayside. It is wild to think about other athletes all over the county feeling this same frustration and deciding to jump on board like this. I have to figure out how to get onto an agenda for the school board meetings next.

As a 4 year letterman in softbal; I would have loved some acknowledgment for my hard work on the field, along with my hard work in the classroom.

Needs to be done but athlete should carry at least a 3.0 GPA or higher nothing less

I was a Varsity swimmer my freshman year so I know all the commitment it takes for a sport but I think to receive a cord for a sport you should have at least a 2.7 GPA, it's not fair to give out cords to someone who's great at a sport when those who get cords due to academic work so hard for them.

I am not from this area but I agree because I am a 4 year varsity player and I think we deserve the recognition

As a marcher and runner, I think this is a great idea! As hard as students work for their dreams whether it's in classroom or on the field, they should definitely be recognized for their talents and achievements.

Student athletes often work harder than many in order to maintain good grades while also attending frequent practices and games. These students are often up late into the night, giving up weekends, often giving up part of their summer to train and represent their school. I feel very strongly that they deserve a special recognition at graduation for this accomplishment.
