The vote passed and we have officially adopted a pro-choice stance in our constitution. I am completely overwhelmed by this result and it belongs entirely to the students who kept pushing for this change.

The Irish State is an inherently pro-life institution. This leaves people who can become pregnant in a precarious position. Their health, safety, and agency are all compromised by not being able to make very important decisions for themselves.

We believe NCAD Student Union should take a Pro-Choice stance in our constitution, in order to make it clear that the students of NCAD will not accept the Irish government's controlling and entitled attitude towards those people.

We believe the campus should be a safe space for all students, a non-judgemental space where people can access the information necessary to have an abortion if they should need.

Including a Pro-Choice stance in the constitution will cement that the Student Union of this college supports equality, and that the health of all students - both mentally and physically - is a priority.

I have been reading through the comments and stories shared here and I am honestly overwhelmed by your conviction. It humbles me to think that we are building this momentum together when I only started this out of a simple hope for a better campus culture.

it's time women have the basic function of choice, power, and authority over their own bodies.

Repealing the 8th doesn't mean mandatory abortion. Just like the marriage referendum, no one is forcing you to do anything.

Please delete this comment your words are so nauseating. Even more so to the woman who has found herself pregnant, desperately scouring the internet looking for some direction and has happened upon this page, abortion is not ‘sick’, 'twisted' or ‘wrong’, it’s a perfectly civilised choice, one which could be made with dignity were it not for article 40.3.3, using those words dehumanises women, and is completely counteractive to the cause.

Amy; it's such a horrible thing to do to describe abortion as such. It's harmful and completely prevents the destigmatisation that this petition is attempting to achieve. While we appreciate the sentiment in standing for bodily autonomy and appreciate hugely the signature, to leave such a comment is absolutely detrimental to the cause of signing. I hope you might delete this so no more people have to feel attacked so personally about something so difficult.

It's time to take back what is ours, the right to the health of our bodies! Repeal the 8th!

Because although I think abortion is sick and twisted and wrong and I would never in my life get one myself it's not up to me what another woman does with her body
