The “Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act” making a group that will face the heavy burden of fixing child abuse. It is supposed to help stop Child Abuse. However, It does not do much to stop it directly. This act doesn’t send a clear message that it was made to stop Child Abuse. It is a very vague idea that can be brought to action. When we read the "Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act,"we thought it was about a group who will be formed a certain way with certain days for meeting to discuss the issue and figure out ways to stop it. This act is supporting how you can make a group that will get together and stop all the abuse.

We would like to fix this act to say something more direct about the issue of Child Abuse. Maybe the act could be revised to make sure that people are better qualified to help the abused children. This act is also out of date. It was written in the 1970’s. In that time the number of deaths cause by Child Abuse has gone up instead of down.

Approximately six million children are victims of Child Abuse. On average, about six kids die every day from Child Abuse. It used to be about three deaths, but the number of deaths increased to six in the short time of 8-12 years! Investigating these cases faster could’ve prevented these deaths. The problem is that the victims are too weak and too scared to speak up and ask for help.

We can put a stop to this horrible nightmare and can change the policy. The penalty of the crime should match the severity of the case. We should keep a watch out for any signs of Child Abuse and report it before it goes any further and ensure the protection of children by giving more attention to the issue and by giving public announcements that prevent Child Abuse more resources to do a better job.

Now, can you please take some time and sign this petition?

Updates

May 21, 2012

The language in the current act is far too vague to protect vulnerable children effectively. I am drafting a proposal for specific revisions that demand higher qualifications for those handling abuse cases. Email your local representative today to insist they review these outdated standards.

The momentum behind this push to rewrite the act proves people are ready to stop waiting for change. Now is the time to turn this energy into pressure by emailing your local representative and demanding direct action on these outdated policies.

it is insane how old this is. things have changed so much since the 70s. we really need to update our laws to protect kids properly.
