saiah Charles 6/14/12 Child Abuse Child abuse is a serious problem in the United States and all over the world. Child abuse usually brings up images of children being brutally beaten but child abuse can come in many different forms. These include neglect, physical abuse, emotional abuse, verbal abuse, and medical neglect. Some things you learn about child abuse can not only make you aware of the problem but it can help you end it and spread awareness. The more you know about child abuse, the safer you or your loved ones will be. Child abuse is becoming a more and more serious problem every year. The abuse and neglect of american children has grown larger 130 percent since 1980. Neglect has increased 320 percent since 1980, physical abuse has increased 84 percent since 1980. And emotional abuse has increased 333 percent. The least common type of child abuse is medical neglect by a measly 2.4 percent and the most common is neglect at a skyrocketing 78.3 percent. Parents who abuse their children should also be aware of the fact that abuse can possibly ruin their lives for ever/affect them in the future. 14% of all men in prison in the usa were abused as children. 36% of all women in prison in the usa were abused as children. And abused children are 25% more likely to experience teen pregnancy. Children who experience child abuse or neglect are 59% more likely to be arrested as a juvenile, 28% more likely to be arrested as an adult, and 30% more likely to commit violent crimes. For my plan of action, I think that any parent/guardian/adult who abuses their child , and is caught in public and or reported by the child or a witness should be sentenced to at least 24 hours of community service depending on the amount of harm done to the child. If you would like to find a way to help there are also a lot of foundations out there such as “Dreamcatchers for abused children” “Safe horizon” etc. And these foundations would be willing to take any donations. I would also like to create a child abuse hotline that is a fast and easy number to remember to fit the needs of forgetful children
