This petition is to advocate that the Chico City Council vote in favor of establishing a green line that encircles the entire city of Chico in order to prevent overgrowth of the city. Real Estate Developers are presently bulldozing hundreds of acres all around Chico to build residential and commercial developments that are entirely unnecessary. When we have commercial areas such as the Kohl's shopping center that are almost completely vacant, Chico is clearly not experiencing the sort of positive population growth that necessitates housing developments with over 200 properties. Instead, Chico should focus it's resources on improving existing housing and commercial facilities to beautify what's already here. Those that do immigrate to Chico don't (or, at least they shouldn't) move here because they intend to transform it into the next Roseville or Auburn, but rather they come here because Chico is unique and amazing just as it is. When's the last time you heard a new resident say "I came here for college and decided to stay because this town is just like Auburn!" No! People come and stay because Chico is Chico, it's unlike any other town in California and should be kept as such. Thus, Chico's unique aesthetic and culture should be embraced for being what it is and the City Council should concentrate it's efforts on making Chico BETTER, not BIGGER.
