With all the bad preservatives in food that the government allows, it should be up to us to grow our own.

If Toronto is allowing it in some wards, we as a rural community should be allowed as well. Of course limiting the number of hens and not allowing rosters.

As long as they are contained on the owners property and limited to a reasonable number it should be ok. I would actually love a few chickens of my own and would know how to keep them responsibly as my hubby grew up on a chicken farm and I grew up on a horse farm. We are not anti animals by any means and love local farm products. The problems isn't the chickens. The problem is people allow them to roam onto other people's properties. Chicken poo can be toxic to dogs and I would assume children. So if this goes through as I hope it does, I think a by-law needs to be in place to ensure chickens cannot roam off the owners property. I'm all for free range but please don't allow it to become a problem for someone else.
