The city of Martinsburg, WV currently does not allow chickens within the city limits. The city offices have advised a petition be brought before the council. This petition is to make them aware that residents of Martinsburg would like to be allowed to own a reasonable amount of backyard chickens. No roosters, they make too much noise for the neighbors. Chickens are a valuable asset to any home, consuming kitchen waste that would otherwise take up room in the landfills and in turn producing an affordable, healthful food. They also reduce bugs and fertilize the soil.
