No problems with chickens. Nice to know where your eggs come from and how the chickens are treated. If a cat or dog get to a neighbor's chickens...well...that's life.

Allow them except if no back yard

Please. They are not as noisy as dogs and produce equivalent fun and more.

Hens are wonderful animals and what possible reason could there be to say no the keeping them as long as they are well cared for. They save money for people, are gentle animals, and they eat bugs. A lot of people in Vermont have them and while I would not do it for the food they bring I would rather see them have good lives even if they die in the end rather than live lives of horror on factory farms.

I owned 6 chickens in Merrick in the late 1970's. I bought 6 chicks at the old Bellmore Feed store in Bellmore and every month or two we'd buy a 100 pound sack of corn meal. We had a coop in the backyard and every morning we'd go outside and get brown eggs. I loved having Chickens !!! The Town of Hempstead should issue permits so they can regulate people and tell them what they can do and not do. Dogs bark all day, dirty the side walks, streets, grass, run wild around the neighborhood. chickens are quiet for the most part and docile . The town can even regulate what variety of chicken you can buy. Some breeds are great with people, others are nervous. Every chicken owner should be required to buy a commercially made chicken coop to keep things nice looking. My old chicken coop was a little run down and difficult to keep clean. Let people have chickens to get organic eggs for the whole family. A few slobs don't follow the rules, why penalize everybody else and ban them ? This time around I'll get nice colorful chickens like Rhode Island reds .

Hens are a great addition to any yard. They keep weeds down, they eat pests, they till your garden and compost, eat kitchen scraps, and provide fresh healthy eggs. They don’t bark at night like dogs, and don’t make more noise than kids playing and other common sounds during the day. They should absolutely be allowed!

If so many other Long Island towns allow backyard chickens and ducks, then the Town of Hempstead should follow suit, as a precedent has been set. Backyard poultry pose no threat to the community and bring much benefit. As a people growing more green-conscious, towns need to encourage practices that lead to self-reliance and local sharing.

Chickens should definitely be allowed. Brooklyn even allows chickens! We have had chickens for 6 years and I cannot imagine living without chickens again! We love our chickens and so does the whole neighborhood!

backyard chickens can bring fresh eggs to the family and help parents teach children to be caring toward animals and how to do chores.

Chickens should be allowed, as long as they are maintained & well kept just like any other pet. We all have neighbors who are allowed to keep dogs who bark continuously at all hours, chickens are a peaceable creature. Besides the fresh eggs & companionship, chickens offer us a great deal of joy & satisfaction to be able to care for & watch them.

It is our human right and should be allowed to be as self sustainable as possible. We want to know where our food comes from. by allowing us to raise chickens for eggs does this !! Please consider the request to allow the Town of Hempstead permission to raise chickens.

If people can have noisy dogs barking all night it's ridiculous we can't keep pet chickens

I will put this up on facebook. Roosters are the problem. The coops should be clean and maintained.
