All who visit 19 Cherry Hill, NJ public schools deserve ADA access

I went to CHEAST from 2009-2013. I, along with a handful of other kids, had to use the elevator, as I was unable to do stairs with 1200 kids going up and down them at the same time. The elevator was from 1968, the same year the school was built and was never updated. I got stuck in the elevator 20+ times in my four years as a student there. We complained multiple time that I was missing hours of classes because I was unable to take the stairs. The school did nothing. Glad to see some action for change 7 years later!

ADA compliance should be a priority.

ADA access very important for all schools.

Nothing about us, without us! ADA is the LAW! Vote to make Cherry Hill ADA Compliant now!

Long overdue.

Please make our schools accessible to all. It is long overdue.

I am ashamed of how Cherry Hill has handled the most vulnerable children in our district. There is no more putting things off. Act NOW. Take care of our kids NOW. Equalize their learning environments NOW. Follow the law NOW.

Even in the midst of a Pandemic, promptly addressing these exterior ADA compliance issues as well as the interior ADA compliance issues that were excluded from ADA's scope of work needs to be a priority. ADA compliance is needed not only for our students, teachers, and staff, But also for their parents and family members who may only occasionally be on school property.

20 years is way too long. If health and safety are truly a top priority in CHPS then there should be no reason not to ensure our students with disabilities are equally able to safely access all facilities in our schools.

It's criminal that you still haven't addressed this issue! It's a priority!

Thirty years after ADA became law, we should not have to fight so our students with disabilities have safe access to our schools. We should not have to advocate so that parents with a disability can have safe access to our schools to participate in their child's education. We should not have to campaign so that grandparents and community members have safe access to our schools to volunteer, view performances or celebrate the achievements of our learners. We should not have to battle so that a teacher with a temporary or permanent disability can safely access our buildings to share their talent. Cherry Hill has had issues with being out of ADA compliance for a very, very long time. We are a District of Character. We must stand for individuals with disabilities. We must bring our district into compliance. We must not wait. The time is now!

Long overdue!!! ALL children and ALL families should be able to attend school and school events safely! WE should all be UNITED in this!!! Health and safety for ALL!

This shouldn’t even be up for discussion. It’s the law. This needs to happen before money is spent on anything else.

Cherry Hill Special Education PTA (CHSEPTA) has been advocating for accessibility in all 19 schools for many years and we want the Cherry Hill Board of Education (CHBOE) to follow the ADA Accessibility law. Cherry Hill Public School (CHPS) students, administration, teachers, staff and visitors with special needs deserve accessibility in our public schools. Enough is Enough! Be an example to the students you educate! Vote for Accessibility in Cherry Hill 8/11/2020. 1. The Cherry Hill School District ADA accessibility report created by Environmental Resolutions, Inc. (ERI) was presented at the CHBOE meeting 7/28/2020. 2. Per the Cherry Hill Administration request, only the entrances to the 19 school buildings and parking lots were evaluated as the district is looking into a bond referendum and more vestibules. So far, several of these locations have new entrances and they were evaluated. No theaters, classrooms, playgrounds, gyms or bathrooms were included. 3. The ERI Report notified the CHBOE that all 19 Cherry Hill School District building entrances and parking lots including those with new entrances due to vestibule construction are NOT ADA compliant and had CRITICAL and NECESSARY ADA items to fix. 4. When it was time to vote on the new Beck Middle School vestibule, there was a motion to table the vote on the vestibule to study and discuss the need for ADA accessibility to be worked on before the vestibule construction. The motion was seconded and approved 5-4. 5. The Cherry Hill Board of education will now meet at the B and F committee meeting on August 3, 2020 for a Committee of the Whole meeting which will be open to the public online. Then, the CHBOE vote on the Beck vestibules will take place August 11, 2020 at the Board of Education meeting. 6. We thank our many advocates throughout the years but now we need your help. 7.
