Several years ago, the Chelan County Department of Community Development made a proposal to the County Commissioners, seeking to close Community Development to the public on Fridays, as a means for improving the efficiency by which the department staff processed both land-use and building permits applications. Over the last few years, it is clear that this has NOT resulted in any improved efficiency in permit processing within Community Development. Rather, as one of the only departments within Chelan County that is NOT open to the public on Fridays, it has, in fact, led to confusion, frustration and inconvenience for those who Community Development serves--the public. We hereby respectfully request that the Chelan County Commissioners direct the Community Development director to return to an operating schedule that opens the department to the public on a Monday - Friday business schedule.
