They actually dropped out of the show and confirmed they watched the film and I am just sitting here staring at my screen because it really happened. I keep thinking about how so many people jumped on this and pushed for it and now they are not performing at that …

I would ask, as a fan, that you watch the documentary Blackfish before you decide to perform at Seaworld Orlando on Feb. 15th for the Beer and Bands. As public figures, you have the potential to deliver a message, whether good or bad. In performing at Seaworld you would be communicating the disregard of the highly sentient, sensitive, family oriented creatures that are the Orcas and dolphins that are kept in captivity there, never to swim free again, to be used as incubators for future performers, and only to retire through their death. Barenaked Ladies were asked to view the documentary Blackfish, and have opted out of the performance line up for that day, and I would ask that you also watch this informative piece of filmmaking and follow suit. The times are changing in what I, as a parent, want my child to understand about this world we live in, and it is to teach compassion and kindness to all, especially to those that have no voice to speak for themselves, we must be a voice for them. Your voice could ring loud and long to tell Seaworld that holding these wonderful creatures in captivity is wrong, and you could tell your fans that admire you that you are indeed compasionate and aware of others in our world. Thank you.

I honestly stared at the screen for ten minutes when I saw the number hit one thousand because who would have thought this would actually resonate with so many people. It feels like such a massive shift from when I was just sitting here feeling frustrated and typing this up out of pure desperation after watching that documentary. Now we need to figure out how to make sure the band actually sees this pile of names.

I really thought this might just float around in the void for a while so seeing this level of momentum is honestly making my head spin a little bit (in a good way though). People keep sending me messages about why they care and I read them all while my coffee goes cold because I just cannot look away from the screen.

I just saw we hit one hundred signatures and honestly my hands are shaking a bit because I really thought this would just sit here in the void. It feels so surreal to see people agreeing that these creatures deserve better and I am sincerely grateful for everyone who stopped by to sign.

Cetaceans belong in our oceans wild and free not held hostage to perform degrading and un-natural tricks for human enjoyment and for a few dead medicated fish. These are intelligent and sentient beings made to suffer to line the pockets of the organizations that hold them captive.
Your entertainment was kidnapped! Tilikum was never a rescue, rehab, nothing. He was kidnapped at 2-3 years old, separated from his mother and family to live in a bathtub as a circus performer for human laughs and entertainment. It's 2013, time to empty the tanks. Thank you.
I am a fan since highschool! Now, thirty years later I ask you to please reconsider! Please inform yourself and raise awareness among your fans worldwide and others. Thank you! I want you to want this too!! :)
Show your fans what makes you the excellent musicians that you are...the love of the Music, not the dollar! When you are done with your performance, you can move on to the next gig or go home. These animals are not allowed even that! Please cancel your performance!
You have been one of my favorite bands for 20+ years. I had tickets to your concert at the Sugar mill in Clarksberg that was sadly cancelled. Please watch Blackfish and All Fall from Freedom before supporting this business. Please. I learned so much in the last year.
Please help stop the suffering of these beautiful creatures by a company who cares about nothing but their profit
Come on, Cheap Trick!

Please watch Blackfish and change your mind about performing at SeaWorld. Captivity is cruelty. Know better/do better/be better. Join Willie Nelson, Heart and Barenaked Ladies in cancelling performances at this ABUSEMENT park. Be the voice for the animals. Thank you!
