Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools Secure Gun Storage
Nearly 75% of guns used in school shootings come from a home- often a family member's or friend's. While changing gun laws may be complex, preventing kids’ access to unsecured firearms is something we can act on today.
We are calling on Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools to take a clear, public stand: endorse secure gun storage and proactively share secure gun storage information with families across our community.
Our kids’ safety shouldn’t be optional. Join us in asking for action now.

Common sense. If we can stop one kid from getting access to a gun at home it is worth it. Please do this.
This is meaningful action—not just talk— we need to take action to prevent gun violence in our schools and community.
The terrifying events at Carrboro High School on 4/14/26 were closer than I ever want to come again to gun violence. I will never forget the thought of my beloved child, running through the forest, running for their life. The fact that no one was hurt does not make that trauma and that fear, which these kids carry with them every day, any less real. Anything we can do in our community to reduce the risk that our children will experience gun violence would be a step in the right direction. Thank you
CHCCS leadership: as a parent of 2 children in the CHCCS district, I respectfully demand a more proactive and public stand to promote and provide helpful info on safe and secure storage of firearms among families in the district.
Sharing safe gun storage information with families is an important component of gun violence prevention. CHCCS should act with haste to do so..
