No Charles County High School graduations at North Point

This whole episode of La Plata High School kids graduating at North Point is ridiculous! If you can’t use the Show Place Arena or even Blue Crabs Stadium, then the next best place is your very own high school. Back in my day, graduation ceremonies took place on our high school’s football field. It was an amazing atmosphere and the same thing could easily be done at La Plata. The stadium home side seating could be used as the backdrop, and if there was overflow, you simply have folks bring their lawn chairs to line the sides of where the students are sitting on the field. I know I’d sure like to see it there and am more than willing to be on any planning committee to make it come to fruition. In closing, if these kids have their ceremony at North Point, I hope they all get together and organize a sit-out. They need to stand up for what they believe in.

I have so much pride in westlake and hope to be voted most spirited as a superlative next year. I have so much pride in westlake it would simply break my heart to have to graduate at northpoint.

Technically, NP's gym (or as it is supposed to be called- Convocation Center) was built as large as it is because the county was going to have all of the high school's graduations at NP. I'm not sure what the graduating size of all of the other schools is, but I'm assuming it is not as large as that of NP so the size issue may or may not be as big of a problem. Unfortunately, NP could not have foreseen the drastic increase in size of NP when building the gym, as NP's population grew so large that they had to build trailers and then even more. But that only applies to NP and not the other schools.
But I do agree that when in high school, I would want to graduate from my school and not another. It is really important to those students at the time, so students should be able to be polled and the pros and cons and wishes of the county weighed into that decision.

I graduated from CCPS in 89 and I sat in the football field of my high school. Kids should be able to graduate at their own high school!

We are North Point...NOT! We are LaPlata, Stone, Westlake, McDonough and Lackey. The students, our kids, shouldn't have to graduate at a rival school. It is just WRONG so WRONG!
