Below is a letter we received from our Superintendent of Charles County Public Schools recently regarding a shocking budget cut to our planned numbers, making it clear that our children are not even close to being a high priority by our county. Quality education of our children should be at the top of the priority list so that our future leaders are equipped to handle the increasingly complex and dynamic challenges we face on a global scale. Not to mention the fact that we want our children to have an advantage to compete with other children across the country/globe for both college and job opportunities with a high chance of success.

Conditions of some of the older schools are worsening and they are very overpopulated. Less teachers to more students does not help, it hurts.

Take a look at the statistics found athttp://www.schooldigger.com,a website that publishes school rankings in comparison to other schools in the county, state, and across the country. The statistics are very alarming to say the least.

An Elementary School in Charles County…

In 2013, Daniel Of St. Thomas Jenifer Elementary School ranked worse than 94.6% of elementary schools in Maryland. It also ranked 17th among 21 ranked elementary schools in the Charles County Public Schools District.

A Middle School in Charles County…

In 2013, Mattawoman Middle School ranked worse than 67.7% of middle schools in Maryland. It also ranked 5th among 8 ranked middle schools in the Charles County Public Schools District.

PLEASE SIGN THIS PETITION TO SHOW THE COMMISSIONER'S OFFICE THAT WE ARE FED UP WITH GETTING A RAW DEAL FOR OUR CHILDREN. WHERE IS ALL OF OUR TAX MONEY GOING - DO WE NOT HAVE A SAY? OR DO WE JUST PAY INCREASED TAXES BLINDLY AND LET THEM CHOOSE WHERE THE MONEY GOES? MAKE A DIFFERENCE - HAVE A VOICE - MAKE A STAND!

Please pass it on and share it with everyone in the area so that their voices can be heard too! Our teacher's need higher pay and our children deserve better learning environments.
Letter from Kim Hill asking for support...

Hello, this is Kim Hill, Superintendent of Charles County Public Schools. I’d like to bring you up to date on important budget information that may impact your child’s education.
Last night, in a three to two vote, the Charles County Commissioners approved a budget that does not adequately fund the needs of our students or the opening of our new high school. The Commissioners promised to provide $10 million when we were ready to open the new high school. Instead, they voted to provide us with $2.9 million.

This lack of funding forces us to consider cuts to programs that may impact your child. It also means we will be able to hire fewer teachers, which means class sizes will increase.
Quality education requires adequate funding. By underfunding the school budget, the Commissioners will force the Board of Education to make spending cuts at a time when the costs of education are rising.

Adequate funding is the only way to keep Charles County Public Schools competitive. It’s my responsibility to advocate for the needs of our schools and your children, but I need your help. Please contact your County Commissioners and ask them to reconsider their budget decision.

Thank you for your support of Charles County Public Schools.
