Changing Avonworth School District's Grading Scale
Avonworth School District currently uses the following grading scale
· A - 100-93
· B - 92-85
· C - 84-75
· D - 74-70
· F - Below 70
Contiguous school districts and a vast majority of the school districts in the country use a grading scale of 90-80-70-60. We have no confidence that the current system accurately portrays the academic abilities of our students and may, in fact, be adversely affecting the Avonworth applicants for college admissions, honor program placements and merit-based scholarship awards. In the past, the Avonworth School District has used a 10 point grading system.
In light of the above, we urge you to make the following revisions: Adopt a 10 point scale, defined as: 90 - 100 = A = 4.0 pts; 80 - 89 = B = 3.0 pts; 70 - 79 = C = 2.0 pts; 60 - 69 = D = 1.0 pts; 59 - below = F = 0 pt. We believe these changes will encourage Avonworth students to take more challenging courses and enable them to better compete for college admissions, honors programs, and merit scholarships.
