Currently in relation to surrogacy when a baby is born the commissioning parent must register the birth in the name of the surrogate mother. Once the baby is 6 weeks old but no more than 6 months a parental order must be completed to transfer parental responsibility. Currently the revised certificate does not read 'Mother' & 'Father' but 'Parent' & 'Parent'. We propose that a new certificate be issued from the Registrar General which would enable the IPS to insert the appropriate title depending on the applicants sex.
