I have always wanted to be a teacher from the age of 14 . I am now 24 and just finished my 7 years of study to enable me to progress on the scitt initial teacher training . I have been accepted and been offered a lovely salaried school placement due to start in September .

In the past few months I have been working on my QTS practical skills test , I failed both on the first attempt by 3 marks but re took the English for the second time and passed ! However I failed my maths by one mark . I now have 1 more attempt and if I can't pass I will not be allowed to join my scitt course and new school in September . I can't do this for 2 years !

This is absolutely ridiculous, I posted my story onto a QTS numeracy help group on Facebook to find I am not the only one ! People have been not allowed to teach for 2 years . One girl told me that she failed again Friday which means she was locked out for 3 years !

Dreams of continuing teaching become abandoned and school placements have to be put on hold for 2 years !

They told her that they are waiting to employ her as she was "too valuable to loose".

We are suppose to be inspiring children to not give up and keep trying but this testing does not allow this to happen . No teacher is going to need to know how much carpet they can have in their classroom , how many spaces are left on a coach or the fraction of children to pass a test : in only 18 seconds it's silly .

Something needs to be done about this !!
