As Skate policy within campus and city of Denton are conflicting (UNT stating use the road and Denton saying sidewalk) confusion and miss-communication is a very common thing among UNT students in regards on where to skate. Specifically as a safety concern a situation based and relaxed policy approach would be best. As Skateboarding is situationaly safer on the sidewalk than the road in specific circumstances ( and vice versa) to have a predetermined rules/laws on where to go (only sidewalk or only road) as a safety concern is actually allot more dangerous than being forced to skate on the street with many cars or the sidewalk with many people. This petition is to be sent the UNT police department and governing body in regards to campus traffic law. The petition is a proposal to change and make skateboard traffic laws fluid and safer by instead of grouping skateboarding with bike laws or pedestrians like current policy some special attention and comprimise is necessary as it falls within a fine line in between the two, but specifically to look at skateboarding as a whole different form of transportation with laws that need to be specifically geared and address skateboarding/long-boarding, while providing insight and is better off to help promote safety for both the riders, pedestrians, and other traffic on the road.
