To echo other sentiment on here. It’s not a shakedown for more cash. It’s about increasing the penalties to create a culture where agencies won’t insist scheduling jobs unrealistically resulting in horrendous hours

It’s not right, that when working for multinationals with strict working conditions for their employees the same rules don’t apply to subcontracted production crews.

Signed because I know the huge impact the hours can have on health (both physical and mental), relationships and family. Not to mention the numerous near death experiences I’ve had driving home.
Like Jim Joliffe I understand though that budgets are being cut as platforms multiply and target audiences become more diffuse and location fees, onscreen talent and equipment hire are all expenses this doesn’t tackle, though equipment is getting better and cheaper for lots of basic kinds of productions.

Signed, but I doubt it'll happen. From a safety point of view its totally needed and would be a real forward leap in the continuous back steps this industry has taken. But gone are the days of production companies making a fortune, many of them are being squeezed towards bankruptcy, cutting corners where they can by not having permanent offices, staff, etc. Turning a one day shoot into a two day shoot incurs other costs like kit hire, location/ studio costs etc etc. Budgets are tiny enough as it is and this will just push clients and agencies into cheaper and more rewarding avenues of advertising, and away from TV.

Working 16 hour days isn’t fair and when you need to go to a different job next day, production don’t care

My shoot schedule today is 0730-2330. They’ve normalised those types hours and that is criminal. Yes to safe working conditions please.

Long overdue. Let’s not wait until a disaster happens but act to prevent it happening. No doubt the APA will see this in a different light and look at it as resulting in the loss of work in the UK rather than an effort to stop a loss of life.

Everyone should watch the Haskell Wexler doc "Who Needs Sleep". It's on Vimeo – he made it in the wake of several crew members dying on the way home, driving tired.

Incredibly important to all of us to make a change that looks out for our wellbeing and enforces much safer working hours.

Signing this remembering the times I have fallen asleep at a red light on the way home and just relieved it was never at 70mph on the motorway.

In the last month I have worked between 16-22 hours on shoot days. I cannot remember the last time I did less than that.

With no one to stand up for the crew, conditions are worsening and something must be done before it is too late.
