As an IATSE grip in the United States, I'm no stranger to excessive hours on set. These workers have my full support in their demands for safer and more equitable working conditions - an injury to one is an injury to all!

More sleep = more productive crew. Not to mention more safe crew!
Just this month I worked on a job that went on for 4 days shooting for 13-14 hours, then the last day was 20 (2 days crammed into one)! On all of those days I had to drive home for an hour too! Just one question for production- when am I meant to sleep?

Anything to stop dangerous working hours for crew. I have already lost a good friend the location manager Ben Hopkins possibly due to long hours on a job

The hours we work are dangerous there have been too many times where I have felt like I’m falling asleep at the wheel. I love what I do but it’s not worth my life.

Having regularly struggled to drive to and from work as a result of excessively long days only to have to go to next job after a few hours sleep I fully support thus petition

5. The new days pay should be penalised at the beginning of the second day (after 8+1 or 10+1) by saying 14 hours it gives them permission to shoot till then.

I have great sympathy with this, as individual reclaims, rather than one demand at once.
(At the very least, parity with the BECTU Rigger's Dept. perhaps?)
One simple immediate change we can implement ourselves, would be to load the TOC on the end of the day, (an assumption we are working the next day at 08:00hrs) rather than the beginning, as it is now.
Well done all!

This is an important step forward and not before time , (no pun intended)

However far fetched these demands seem to be, they are all just preventative penalties that will possibly deter the client/agency from pushing production companies into these unreasonable demands of crew. Productions do NOT often have to go onto another early call time once their job is over. Every crew member has got that obligation going on.
Location Manager
Great choice
