As a parent of a student who has used the services of the Mukilteo School District while living on the island full-time, I know that these statements are not entirely true. When we purchased our island property in 1995 there were at least 7 students living on the island. 2 were transported by the parents to the Everett School District each day and the others received instruction from a Mukilteo School District tutor. This continued for 2-3 years.
Our own student was taught on the island for 2 years (1998-2000) at the expense of the Mukilteo School District. The tutor traveled to the island on the Hat Island ferry on Wednesday of each week to teach our student and a lesson plan was left for the remaining days of the week.
We could choose to live on the island full-time tomorrow and the Mukilteo School District would be required to provide ON ISLAND education to our 2 current students. This option is open to everyone.
While I agree that many Hat Island property owners own multiple properties and pay tax to multiple school districts that would be true regardless of where your vacation property was/is located.

Good points all! Tis basically taxation without representation, something our forefathers went to war with England over a few centuries ago.

Totally makes since...but in addition any taxed money for the main land should rightfully go to Hat Island.

I agree with this change. This is unfair to all Hat Island property owners.
