The Dress Code has changed!

Yet another problem. Sports have their own equipment and to not let these girls be allowed to wear what is required for their sport is absurd. Why is it okay for teachers to come stick rulers up to our legs? This is not okay. Guys have shorter skirts than girls and they don’t get in trouble for it! So either start pulling rulers out on these boys or leave the girls alone. These women do nothing wrong. Teach these boys to respect women, not teach women that if they don’t dress the way they are told they will get in some sort of trouble.

I know so many cheerleaders that have gotten seriously injured because of loose clothing. You don’t realize that people’s safety is being jeopardized because you want everyone to be “modest”. No one should have to say this but, modesty is NOT more important than safety.

As a former Alumni, I have been the football trainer. You may say a normal athletic outfit is not okay, but the football players run through your athletic complex in their underwear, leggings, no shirt, etc which is all against the rules. They do not get in trouble, but the girls wear shorts that are a normal uniform for their sports and you want to get mad really? MAKE YOUR MALES RESPECT A WOMAN AND THEIR BODIES. Don’t make the girls cover up when they are doing absolutely nothing wrong. I’ve heard more sexism from your teachers, than I ever did from the boys. Yet I spent every day after, during, and on weekends with boys. The girls have their rights to wear spanks, THEY ARE A PART OF SPORTS. At least they cover unlike most of the other shorts, they don’t fall off, and more. Girls wear them daily if you have issues with that then boys can’t hike up their shorts, need to have their school shorts below the knee, and more. You guys preach that women are equal, your actions show you don’t. Take the sexism out of your school, teach your boys better, and check yourself before you blame the girls for being a distraction.

Are we not going to comment on how the guys on the wrestling team wear spandex? So much more is shown than a girl just wearing a pair of shorts. You wouldn’t take the helmet away from a football player because that’s part what is needed to play the sport. A volleyball player needs their knee pads and their spandex shorts. This should not be an issue in my opinion.

there is a double standard at this school when it comes to sports. banning spandex yet other teams are allowed to practice shirtless? if it is an issue or “a distraction” for a girl to wear spandex then maybe you should change your view on women and not view them as objects instead of banning a clothing item entirely. but of course no one is ready for that conversation

By banning spandex from the cheer program, you are willing to put the athlete’s at risk of injury. Loose, baggy clothing items are dangerous for a cheerleader during stunts as regular shorts are made of a thinner, more slick material, causing a base to lose grip of a flyer when performing what can become a dangerous skill if the athlete is wearing unsafe practice/performance wear. Regular Nike shorts may seem more appropriate for the athletes to wear however, the space between their shorts and skin is a space where a base’s fingers can get snagged and sprained or broken, or a flyer who can be tossed the wrong way due to his or her bases hand getting caught on the extra fabric. I speak from experience as one practice my loose clothing was snagged by my main base, causing her to sit out that practice and go easy in the next because of the loose practice wear.

After 15 years what has changed in the sport or the school, to regress. Do we not have bigger battles to win than this?

Why is this an issue

I see no reason to make the dress code so strict for the girls when guys practice shirtless.

This is a safety concern bottom line. There is a reason we wear what we wear, and it is not because of vanity.

It is so much easier to play in spandex. Better mobility, durability, and more comfortable.

Spandex are a part of the uniform not for looks but for comfort and better mobility. It is a pain to play in regular shorts.
