I feel it should be a multiple-judge thing, and also any other judge can sign to reinstate.

This rule is unfair and politically based. Lets change this for fairness to each individual dog.

The rule to DQ a dog should not be left up to one person, all dogs who have been DQ'd should have a way for their owners to appeal the judges decision.

I think all temperament DQs should have a chance at reinstatement. I have seen many judges approach a dog way to fast or way to cautious this can make a stable dog react.

AKC DQ's have the appearances of a Money SCAM. My dog was DQ'd and the judge mishandled the incident, including the reason. She documented an untruth. The judge did not follow AKC Rules and Policies properly. She did not call for the Superintendent or an AKC Field Rep. Nor would the Judge discuss or communicate with me her reasoning to DQ the dog. She kept pointing in the direction of the Superintendent's office and told me I had to go talk to "them" and "they" would explain it. The Judge was shooing me out of the ring; no professional common courtesy and she certainly did not follow proper protocol as stated in AKC's rule book. Me and my witness went to the AKC Rep and Show Chair and explained what had occurred and filled out paperwork and a witness statement. The show committee met privately and later informed us my dog was innocent of charges by the committee's ruling and he WOULD NOT BE Disqualified. Then, I get a letter from AKC stating the dog is DQ'd and cannot be shown, BUT, the Judge has given her permission for the dog to be reinstated for a fee of $50 and get a CGC on the dog. Uhhh, he already has one! A $50 processing fee is ridiculous when the dog was found innocent of ALL charges. It's a Scam. I'm glad to sign the petition for Change. Evidently the DQ's are occurring quite frequently without cause.

Disqualification--with the option of one person to make it permanent--has too many implications for it to be applied so erratically and without recourse. Too many stories like the ones I see here--many of which have changed people's minds about participating.

One judge should not have the fate of a dog in their hands. I had a puppy who had just come in season and did not want her bottom touched. I ask the judge not too touch her bottom as she was in season and she immediately reached around and touched her bottom. My puppy did not bite but yelped and jerked around. The judge said, sorry I have to excuse you. First time I had ever been excused and the puppy did not bite her. So no I don't think a judge should have that much power over a dogs show career.

One judge does not an AKC Champion make; one judge does not an Agility, Obedience, Rally, Hunting, Courising, Earthdog title make. Every AKC venue requires at least two different judges whom agree a dog is deserving of said AKC titles. There is no legitimate reason two or more opinions should not be needed for the likes of a dog's reinstatement. Both dogs and judges can have bad days - these days should not ultimately define them nor give them carte blanche on the future of any one animal.

Last August my 15 month old puppy was DQ'd at a show for "roaring" at a judge. Nothing like this had happened before and could not be duplicated after. This puppy was shown in 4-H a month earlier and was used to going camping in very busy campgrounds. I checked this judges record and he had DQ'd 4 and excused 35 dogs in the previous 4 years. My lovely boy is now in a wonderful pet home and I am in tears.

No one judge should have the fate of a dog in their hands. What if the judge has a grudge against the owner or handler???? If 3 judges agree to re instate the dog, then that is very fair. NO ONE JUDGE should have the lifetime fate of a dog in their hands. Think about this, so much can go wrong with one person deciding a fate. In a court of law, it takes 12 people. We are only asking for 3....

I don't think it's fair for one judge's opinion to ruin a dog's chances at showing forever.
