It has been written that "we were moving mountains long before we knew we could." I say to you, use the power of your positive energy and move these mountains of hatred, racism, disgrace. Once and for all, remove all imagery of Nathan B Forrest from the campus of Middle Tennessee State University, a public institution for all citizens. There is no honor in Forrest's legacy of human trafficking and slave trading (the buying and selling human beings); no honor in a heritage and culture of human bondage and slavery, which has inflicted a terrible cancer in the body of this land for much too long. Move these mountains. Finally, be encouraged, for "the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice." Sylvester Brooks

I feel there are others actually of a heroic or humanitarian nature of whose name might be a better representation at a school in the heart of our states original capital.

Change the name . It's an insult to thousands of African American students here at Middle Tennessee State University and to students across the world.

Please change the name of the ROTC building on MTSU's campus. It is presently called Forrest Hall, named after the Confederate Army Lieutenant Nathan Bedford Forrest -- a racist, traitor, and Klansman. While it's important to remember the violent history of Forrest, he should not be celebrated or honored on our campus in any way.

As often as Middle Tennessee State University boasts about its proclamations for celebrating diversity and total acceptance of all people, this stands as an example for just one of the blaring contradictions. #TimeDoesntStall

Buildings should be named for people we can all be proud of. No student, professor, or staff member at MTSU should have to work in a building named for someone who oppressed people like them.

In order for change to happen we must first change.

As a 2010 graduate, I've always been disgusted by the name of this building and heartily support this movement for it to be changed.
