‘We the undersigned are very unhappy that the brownfield site known as the Old Brewery in Romsey has remained undeveloped for so long – nearly 3 decades, we know that hundreds of new homes are planned on the site, and that there is a housing need locally which is now being taken up with development on greenfield sites. Because under the current law the owner of the site Stanborough Developments has no timescale to complete it, all the efforts made so far to persuade them to complete the development have not been successful. We want a change in the law which means that there is an end date to developments where there is a local need, and that a breach of end date results in punitive measures like being forced to sell at a peppercorn price to the local council. We urge you to make the necessary representations in the Houses of Parliament to change the law and get these sites developed.’

The owners of such sites should be made to pay all the council tax and business rates that this site would generate if it was fully developed as planned. This would deter developers from sitting on undeveloped sites once planning permission was given.
There is something fundamentally worng with the law if the council is powerless to insist on development of this site having granted planning permission. To leave this piece of land undeveloped in the heart of our beautiful market town must not be allowed to happen indefinitely.
This brownfield site should have been completed ages ago. The provison of the homes so close to Romsey centre will give a much needed boost to local retailers without putting additional strain on the roads and parking spaces.
It's so damaging having town centres with these empty sites and frustrating for local people. Housing helps regenerate local communities & developers have a social responsibility to build once permission has been given!
I live right next to this site and we get rats (big ones!) coming into our garden from the brewery site. Due to having children, we can't do much about them. I would rather watch the deer in Whitenap than the rats in my garden.
Fed up with this eyesore on our door step please build here rather than greenfield sites that destroy local wildlife corridors

It's appalling that this land is just being left neglected when it could provide housing for the people of Romsey. Using this land too would remove the need to use greenfield sites - sites that need to be kept for the benefit of people's health & wellbeing and to protect wildlife.
