I grew up in Guilford and graduated in 2012. I rowed crew, ran track + field, and supported my friends on the soccer team. I stopped wearing my school gear when I graduated because I was embarrassed at our tone deaf, outdated, and racist mascot. This change should have happened years ago. Let's be better GHS!

Outdated, offensive, ridiculous... it's time. The fact that most of the opposition comes from older white people that are not effected by the high school mascot speaks volumes.

This has gone on WAY too long. It's embarrassing for our town to be so buried in the past. Change this!

I am an alum of GHS 2011. I was on the varsity soccer and fencing teams. I was not fully aware of how horrible the mascot is until I left Guilford and became educated on these issues in college. I am now deeply ashamed of my involvement in sports and rallies that evoked these derogatory images of American Indians. We MUST change our mascot.

This is so stupid. Why is an Indian still a mascot. I graduated in 2014 and we were questioning it then and it’s been 5 years. GHS then questions why students thing it’s okay to appropriate other culture as seen in the recent black face incident, because it is clear the administration and town do not care to educate and stop perpetuating these standards.

This is a long time coming, but change has to happen. There are other respectful ways to honor Guilford's native peoples.
