The intolerance and harm promoted by “Indian” sports mascots, logos, or symbols have very real consequences for Native people. Rather than honoring Native peoples, these caricatures and stereotypes are harmful, and perpetuate negative stereotypes of America’s first peoples. Guilford deserves a school mascot that reflects the strength, beauty, and kindness of its town and citizens. We therefore request that the Guilford school mascot be changed.
