Change The Flawed Big Ten Title Game
The inaugural Big Ten championship game of 2011 has brought great debate and great controversy. The question is, why should a win or loss in the Big Ten championship game count toward the overall record of a team? Yes, it may help the winning team, but this unfairly hurts the losing team. This dilemma creates a misrepresentation in the polls for the losing team. This misrepresentation mainly occurs in the BCS, causing teams that didn't even earn a spot in the championship game to be vaulted ahead of the losing team that did earn a spot in the championship game and happened to lose. They are unfairly penalized in the polls for losing an extra game that other teams in the conference did not have to play. This petition presents one simple proposal: Do not count a win or loss in the Big Ten championship game toward the overall record of either team playing in the title game. This simple solution will ensure that a Big Ten title game is not a pointless thing to strive for. With the way things are now, a team might as well just win barely enough games to NOT make it to the Big Ten title, knowing that they will catapult ahead of the team that loses in the title game, nearly automatically getting a BCS bowl without ever having to play in the title game at all. SIGN THIS PETITION SO WE CAN GET THINGS CHANGED FOR ALL TEAMS IN THE BIG TEN.
