Change the exam format of ECON1140 (Macro & Micro In Context I) from an ONLINE EXAM to a TAKE HOME EXAM

I believe we should substitute our exams for course work such as essays as it will be easier to mark and hand in as I do not have the equipment to scan my work into my laptop. Also if we do have exams for maths I think multiple choice would be better as then I will not need to use scanner and after taking a picture on my phone it does not create a clear picture to upload onto moodle!

I strongly agree with the reasons previously mentioned as I have found it difficult to learn, revise and complete the last two assignments for this course. This is due to the lack there of and organisation of learning materials in particular, the graphs and the supporting theory and mathematical explanations which I have found to be poorly explained. The early closure due to the three weeks of strikes and the Covid-19 pandemic greatly impeded my ability to review the years content with direct teaching from lecturers to fill gaps within my knowledge. A take home format of exam paper will allow for me to much better demonstrate my knowledge of the complex theory using graphs and mathematical derivation and use of equations without the difficulty of doing it on a computer with time constraints. It was confusing to see our Quantitative methods and econometrics paper in a take home paper format but the Macro/Micro in an online paper.

I support the concern raised by Majid. We have never settled ourselves in giving online exams. It is not like giving a practice session given in the classroom. The outcome of this exam is always going to be with us as our degree and I do not want to regret in my decision doing a timely exam which is testing my memory power to remember theories where people like me are facing difficulties in doing an assignment at home due to closure of the library. If it is being redesigned then we want it to be redesigned in a way which tests my understanding, not our memory.

The reason for this change is down to the fact this module consists of a number of formulas and graphs which will not only be time consuming but also extremely difficult to do online, hence a take home exam will enable us to sufficiently answer the questions without worrying about how long a graph or equation is going to take us to write up!

For this module we are required to draw diagrams in which takes a lot of time. Broadband and wifi is also very slow these days as well as disruption with having everyone at home. Having an online exam instead of a take home would not be enough time.

I absolutely agree with this petition. I find it extremely unfair to take online exam for those who experience difficulties with internet connection or any other issues.

I would like the micro macro exam to be a take home exam like the others. It would be an inconvenience for it to be online such as poor connection etc. Thank you

Everybody circumstances during this pandemic differ therefore by having a 5 day home exam it will allow extra pressures to be relieved.

Complications can occur at home during those three hours that might affect the performance of the exam. A week to do the exam eliminates that and reduces stress. Considering strikes occurred, then the virus, it should only be fair for it to be longer than three hours, due to how much we missed of term time.
